Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention from January 8

The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organized from 08-10 January 2023 at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, in collaboration with the Government of Madhya Pradesh, the ministry of external affairs said.

The 17th PBD Convention will be held in a physical format after a gap of four years. The last PBD Convention in 2021 was held virtually during the Covid pandemic.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is a flagship event of the Government of India and provides an important platform to engage and connect with the overseas Indian Diaspora.

The PBD Convention 2023 will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 09 January 2023

The theme of PBD Convention 2023 is “Diaspora: Reliable partners for India’s progress in Amrit Kaal”.

The Youth PBD will be held on 08 January 2023, in partnership with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. On 10 January 2023, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu will confer Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards and preside over the Valedictory Session.

“Since 2014, the Government has accorded the highest priority to our more than 32 million Diaspora and that our engagement is founded on the 4Cs of Care, Connect, Celebrate and Contribute,” said External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.

“PBD Convention 2023 will also include a first ever digital exhibition on the theme “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)- Contribution of Diaspora in Indian Freedom Struggle,” he added.

The website for the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention was jointly launched on 13 October 2022 by the External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

During the launch, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh spoke about the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Madhya Pradesh and encouraged the Diaspora to participate in the PBD Convention 2023 in large numbers.

Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan also participated in the launch ceremony.

The launch of the PBD website (pbdindia.gov.in) marked the commencement of online registration for participation in the PBD Convention 2023.
