Prepare for polls: Imran tells party workers

Imran Khan said that the nation will reject those in elections who took part in this ‘foreign conspiracy’, reports Asian Lite News

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday instructed the workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to prepare for the next elections, saying that the polls will be held in the next three months, Geo News reported.

Speaking during an address at the Governor’s House, Khan said there has been a “foreign conspiracy” against the country, and those who became a part of it are “traitors who are betraying democracy as well as the future generations”.

Criticising the Opposition, Khan said that they should be given “exemplary punishment for betraying the country”, adding that his party will approach the Supreme Court against the Opposition leaders.

He asked the nation to protest daily to send a message to the United States.

“We have made mistakes in the past which will not be repeated this time,” Khan said, adding that his party will give tickets to those who have a vision.

The premier further said that the nation will reject those in elections who took part in this ‘foreign conspiracy’.

He went on to say that these traitors should be thrown behind bars.

“What kind of democracy is this where you buy the members to overthrow a government,” asked Khan.

Gulzar Ahmed indicates willingness

Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Gulzar Ahmed, said on Tuesday that he has not received any offer to become the caretaker Prime Minister of the country from official channels, but if such a proposition is presented to him, he will consider it, Samaa TV reported.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had on Monday announced that outgoing Prime Minister Imran Khan has nominated Gulzar Ahmed as the caretaker Prime Minister of the country.

Ahmed said that he has not made a final decision, but if he gets the responsibility he will have to shoulder it.

When the former CJP’s attention was drawn towards the ongoing political crisis, he said the deadlock will end after the Supreme Court verdict, but becoming a caretaker Prime Minister entails enormous responsibilities which he is willing to shoulder, Samaa TV reported.

Ahmed also said that he will take steps to improve the system.

President Arif Alvi had sent letters to Imran Khan and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif, seeking suggestions for the appointment of a caretaker PM.

In case the two politicians can’t reach a consensus over one name within three days, each one of them will send two names to the parliamentarian committee responsible for appointing a caretaker PM.

The eight-member parliamentary committee, comprising National Assembly and Senate members, with equal representation from the government and the Opposition, will be formed by the NA Speaker.

Khan will continue as the Prime Minister despite being de-notified as the premier, till the appointment of a caretaker PM.

Shehbaz challenges Bajwa

PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif, on Tuesday asked Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and the ISI DG to present evidence before the nation on whether the Opposition leaders have committed treason, Geo News reported.

Speaking to journalists outside the Supreme Court, Sharif reiterated that none of the Opposition leaders have committed treason.

“We did not invite any foreign power and neither are we involved in any foreign conspiracy,” he said, adding that this issue should be clarified.

“I demand the COAS and ISI DG to take notice of this issue and produce evidence in the Supreme Court if we have committed treason,” Sharif said, adding that he has never spoken such clear words before.

The PML-N leader said he will also present this request in front of the Supreme Court, saying, “We will put this demand forward through our lawyers that please review this matter and create a forum in which the matter is clarified.”

Recalling their previous demands, Sharif said: “We have been raising this issue for last three-and-a-half years that this government and the Prime Minister is illegal.”

He complained that when the joint Opposition submitted a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan practising its constitutional right, the PTI-led government raised the issue of “foreign conspiracy”.
