6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off Japan’s Miyagi prefecture on Monday, but there was no tsunami warning.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the temblor occurred at 5.39 a.m., with its epicentre at 38.9 degrees north latitude and 142.1 degrees east longitude, and at a depth of 50 km, reports Xinhua news agency.

There were no immediate reports of any damages or injuries.
