Home Secretary reminds states and UT governments to focus on the five-fold strategy of ‘Test, Track, Treat, Vaccination and adherence to COVID Appropriate Behaviour’, to safely navigate through the festive season, reports Asian Lite News
The Centre on Tuesday extended the Covid-19 containment measures across the country till October 31, 2021 in view of some localised spreads of pandemic in a few states.
In a communication with the Chief Secretaries and Administrators of the Union Territories (UTs), the Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla said that considering the need to prevent any potential rise in number of cases in view of the upcoming festive season in the country, on the direction of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the undersigned to issue an Order, for containment of Covid-19 in the country and in exercise of the powers, conferred under Section 10(2)(i) of the DM Act, the undersigned, hereby directs the State/UT Governments and State/UT Authorities to consider implementation of Prompt & Effective Containment Measures, as conveyed vide aforesaid MoHFW advisory dated 21 September, 2021, until 31.10.2021. The States/UTs, will take the necessary measures, under the relevant provisions of the DM Act”, the Home Ministry communication reads.
The communication also said that the ‘National Directives’ for Covid-19 Management, shall continue to be strictly followed throughout the country and all the District Magistrates shall strictly enforce the above measures.
Noting that the daily Covid cases and overall number of patients in the country has been declining steadily, Bhalla further said that there are still localised spreads of virus in few States and the pandemic continues to be a public health challenge for the country.
He also asked the head of the state administration to closely monitor case positivity, hospital and availability of ICU bed occupancy of every district and in case of having high positivity in their districts; they should also take proactive containment measures so as to effectively arrest the spike in cases and to contain the spread of transmission.
The Home Secretary also reminded the states and UT governments to focus on the five-fold strategy of ‘Test, Track, Treat, Vaccination and adherence to Covid Appropriate Behaviour’, to safely navigate through the festive season to avoid the possibility of surge in Covid cases along with the continuous efforts for the vaccination drive in their jurisdictions.
Covid TPR in Kerala now comes down to 11%
Meanwhile, after a long time, Kerala appears to have come out of the spell of high daily Covid tallies and a high test positivity rate.
A statement issued by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Tuesday saw 11,196 people turn Covid positive after 96,436 samples were tested in the past 24 hours and the test positivity rate was 11.60 per cent.
The day also saw 18,849 people turn negative while the total active cases in the state was 1,49,356, of which 12.7 per cent were in hospitals.
However, the number of Covid deaths was 149, taking the death toll to 24,810.
With regards to vaccination, 92 per cent of the above 18 per cent population have received their first dose, and of this, 40 per cent have by now received both the doses.
60 B’luru schoolkids test Covid+
The district authorities have sealed Sri Chaitanya Girls’ Residential School in Bengaluru following 60 of its students testing positive for Covid-19. Of those who tested positive, only two are symptomatic.
The development has come as a big worry for the Karnataka Health and Education department as the B.S. Bommai government prepares to open primary classes soon.
Bengaluru Urban District Commissioner J. Manjunath said the students tested positive on September 26. The Covid-19 tests were conducted on 480 students as one of the students from Bellary developed Covid-like symptoms.
The girls who tested positive are from Classes 11 and 12. Forty-six students, who tested positive belong to different districts of Karnataka and 14 students came from Tamil Nadu. There are also 22 teachers, 57 staff members working in the residential school.
