Automobile industry bodies — SIAM and ACMA — on Sunday requested their members to consider shutdowns of their plants for a limited period to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“SIAM and ACMA have both requested their Members in OEMs and Auto Component Industry to consider plant shut down for a limited period to overcome the critical period so that workers are not exposed to the virus,” SIAM President Rajan Wadhera said.

Many automobile OEMs have already announced temporary shut down of manufacturing operations.

On Sunday, the Central and state governments announced wide ranging measures including lockdowns and suspension of some public transport to contain the spread of Covid-19.
