India and Nepal have signed Memorandum of Understanding for the reconstruction of 14 cultural heritage and 103 health sector projects spread across various districts of the Himalayan country.
Tweeting about it, the Indian embassy in Kathmandu wrote: “MoUs for the conservation of 14 cultural heritage sector projects and reconstruction of 103 health sector projects signed between CLPIU (Building).”
These projects are being implemented under post-earthquake reconstruction package, the Government of India (GoI) has allocated total grant of USD 250 million, including US $50 million each for education, cultural heritage and health sector, and USD 100 million for the Housing sector, the Indian embassy stated in a statement on Friday.
In total, 71 education sector projects, 28 cultural heritage sector projects in 7 districts, 147 health facilities in 10 districts and construction of 50,000 houses in Gorkha and Nuwakot are being undertaken with the Indian government’s grant assistance, the statement informed.
It noted that the reconstruction of 14 cultural heritage sector projects are spread in Lalitpur, Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Dhading districts of Nepal while the 103 health sector projects are distributed among Lalitpur, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Gulmi, Gorkha and Kavre districts of the Himalayan nation.

According to the statement, CLPIU (Building) of NRA is the implementing agency for both health and cultural heritage sector projects.
The MoUs were signed by both sides in the presence of Karun Bansal, First Secretary (Development Partnership & Reconstruction) and Shyam Kishore Singh, Project Director, CLPIU (Bldg), it mentioned.
The event was attended by officials of the Indian embassy, Central Level Project Implementation Unit (Building) and representatives from Government of India’s project consultants INTACH and CBRI, the embassy statement maintained.
