Arsene Wenger – the first post-war manager to win six FA Cups

Arsenal retained the FA Cup with a 3-0 victory against Aston Villa. With the 12th FA Cup victory, the Gunners has become the most successful team in the competition’s history. After heavy first-half pressure, Theo Walcott volleyed the Gunners deservedly ahead just before the break. Alexis Sanchez’s swerving second-half 25-yard strike doubled the lead. Villa’s misery deepened as Per Mertesacker tacked the third.

It was a record 12th time the Gunners had lifted the trophy, with Arsene Wenger becoming the first post-war manager to win it six times.

Arsenal controlled the match from the start, having 16 shots compared to Aston Villa’s two, although Tim Sherwood’s men did have two penalty claims turned down late on.
