High Commission of India in London, in association with the London School of Trends and INIFD presented a unique showcase on “INDIA DAY”  as part of the London Fashion Week September 23.

The collection was inspired by LiFE Lifestyle for Envioronment, initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was announced at COP26 Summit in Glasgow.

The students of INIFD in partnership with the London School of Trends designed the collections using sustainable and plant-based fabrics which are produced in India with Lotus stems, Banana leaf, rose petals, Cotton, bamboo and various other natural fibres.

The brief was titled Sustainable Modernity, and designers were instructed to employ sustainable materials and zero-waste practices to create a collection that was both cutting edge and wearable. They were tasked to show how the Artisans and their surroundings are linked and depend on each other. A profound connection to the Earth has played a significant role in the cultural practises of India, which have a long history of being influenced by the natural environment.

Upcycling, material optimization, and waste reduction have been at the forefront of India’s artisan practices for decades.

The collection was highly appreciated at the London Fashion Week, HC Mr V Doraiswami and DHC Mr Sujit Ghosh felicitated the designers & interacted with them at India House, clothing created from lotus, rose and banana based fabrics by designers are a reflection of the Indian tradition of Sustainability!
