India, Mongolia Discuss Boosting Strategic Ties

Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs during his official visit to Mongolia, discussed further strengthening of India-Mongolia Strategic Partnership.

Kumar was on an official visit to Mongolia from September 12-14, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

He also exchanged views on cooperation in various sectors like defence, culture, IT, defence and security.

During the visit, the Secretary (East) held talks with State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mongolia N Ankhbayar. He called-on Minister of Education and Science L Enkh-Amgalan, and Minister and Chief Cabinet Secretary of Mongolia D Amarbayasgalan.

He also paid visits to Gandan and Pethub monasteries as well as inspected the construction site of Oil Refinery Project in Dornogobi province, Mongolia, the MEA stated.

During the visit, both sides discussed further strengthening of India-Mongolia Strategic Partnership and maintaining high-level engagements.

They exchanged views on cooperation in various sectors, including developmental partnership, education, IT, renewable energy, connectivity, culture, capacity building, hydro-carbons, mining, defence and security.

Discussions focused on Indian projects in Mongolia, including 1.5 mmtpa Oil Refinery Project, AB Vajpayee Centre of Excellence in IT, Communications and Outsourcing, and India-Mongolia Friendship School, the MEA stated.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Earlier this week, India and Mongolia signed a contract for the construction of the India-Mongolia Friendship Secondary School.

Saurabh Kumar met Mongolia’s Minister of Education and Science, L Enkh-Amgalan, and the two discussed bilateral projects and cooperation in areas of education, IT, skilling and capacity building.

Kumar also met Mongolia’s State Secretary N Ankhbayar to take stock of Indian projects. The two also exchanged views to further strengthen India-Mongolia Strategic Partnership.

They reviewed bilateral relations, took stock of Indian projects, and exchanged views to further strengthen India-Mongolia Strategic Partnership,” MEA posted on X, adding, “Discussions covered cooperation in areas including development partnership, education, IT, hydrocarbons, renewable energy, security & defence, connectivity, minerals and capacity building.”

India and Mongolia have interacted through the medium of Buddhism over a period of 2600 years. Following the emergence of Mongolia as a modern nation-state in the 20th century, the two countries have continued to build relations based on shared historical and cultural legacy.

Earlier, on August 7, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met former Mongolian President Enkhbayar Nambar and discussed deepening bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.

Jaishankar said he values the guidance and insights of the Mongolian leader in taking the cooperation between the two countries to the next level. (ANI)
