Modi Meet Musk, ‘Discuss Minimum Govt Maximum Governance’

Musk and Modi’s discussions covered a range of topics, including space exploration, mobility, technology, and innovation, areas Musk is deeply passionate about.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Thursday at the Blair House in Washington, discussing India’s reform initiatives and the shared vision of governance focused on efficiency and innovation. Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the US, plays a key role in President Donald Trump’s administration.

After the meeting, PM Modi posted on X, formerly Twitter, “I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.’” He added that their discussions covered a range of topics, including space exploration, mobility, technology, and innovation, areas Musk is deeply passionate about.

Musk, known for his groundbreaking ventures, is leading a US initiative aimed at improving government efficiency and eliminating waste. His role in streamlining operations has already led to significant reforms, including merging the US Agency for International Development with the State Department to enhance cost-effectiveness.

The meeting, held just ahead of PM Modi’s talks with President Donald Trump at the White House, underscores the growing collaboration between India and the US on innovation and governance. Modi was accompanied by senior Indian officials, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra.

Musk, accompanied by his family, including his five-year-old son X, and corporate associate Shivon Zillis, shared insights on his vision for enhancing government operations. The two leaders also reflected on their long-standing rapport, beginning with Modi’s visit to Tesla’s San Jose facility in 2015.

While Musk has previously expressed interest in developing an affordable Tesla model for the Indian market, significant progress on this front is yet to materialise. However, the dialogue between the two continues to highlight opportunities for collaboration in innovation and governance.

Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi also held discussions with US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and met Tulsi Gabbard, newly confirmed as Director of National Intelligence, solidifying strategic ties between the two nations.

The meeting between Modi and Musk signals a shared commitment to enhancing governance efficiency while fostering innovation and global cooperation.
