Meta AI Introduces Memory Feature for Personalized Recommendations

Meta’s latest updates underscore the company’s efforts to integrate AI-driven personalization across its platforms, offering users tailored experiences while maintaining some control over their data

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp, is rolling out a new “memory” feature designed to enhance AI-generated recommendations on its platforms. The feature will initially be available on iOS and Android in the US and Canada.

In a blog post, Meta explained that the AI can remember user preferences shared in one-on-one chats on WhatsApp and Messenger. “You can tell Meta AI to remember certain things about you (like that you love to travel and learn new languages), and it can also pick up important details based on context,” the company stated.

For instance, if a user asks for breakfast ideas and mentions being vegan, Meta AI will remember that preference and suggest plant-based recipes in future recommendations.

While the feature does not support group chats, Meta assured users that they can delete AI memories at any time.

In addition to memory, Meta AI is introducing enhanced personalization features that draw from existing content recommendation algorithms on Facebook and Instagram.

The company described a potential scenario: “If you’re looking for family activities for the weekend, based on your home location, recent views of live performance reels, and memory that you have a partner and two young kids, Meta AI might suggest tickets to a local country music show and brunch reservations nearby.”

Meta’s latest updates underscore the company’s efforts to integrate AI-driven personalization across its platforms, offering users tailored experiences while maintaining some control over their data.
