Modi calls Yoga a journey from ‘me’ to ‘we’

PM Modi showered praise on the Andhra Pradesh government for hosting this year’s national celebrations, commending Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for their leadership.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed yoga as both a personal discipline and a collective movement, one that transforms individual consciousness into a shared sense of responsibility for society and the planet. Speaking at the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam, he underscored this year’s theme — Yoga for One Earth, One Health — as a reminder that all life on Earth is deeply interconnected.

“Yoga teaches us we are not isolated individuals but integral parts of nature,” said Modi. “It starts with caring for our health but gradually leads to caring for society and the environment. Yoga transitions us from Me to We.”

The Prime Minister said this spirit of interconnectedness captures the essence of Indian civilisation and cultural values, where the welfare of the individual is inseparable from the well-being of the collective. Quoting the Sanskrit verse Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah (May all be happy), Modi stressed that yoga lays the foundation for seva (service), samanvay (harmony), and sahjeevan (coexistence).

PM Modi showered praise on the Andhra Pradesh government for hosting this year’s national celebrations, commending Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for their leadership. In particular, he spotlighted the state’s Yogandhra Abhiyan, a grassroots initiative that has engaged over two crore people in yoga activities across Andhra Pradesh.

The campaign, spearheaded by state minister Nara Lokesh — son of the Chief Minister — was cited by Modi as a model of how yoga can become a social celebration. “In the last one to one-and-a-half months, Nara Lokesh has shown exceptional commitment. He deserves appreciation for making yoga a people-led movement,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the overwhelming participation in Yogandhra Abhiyan exemplified how citizen-driven efforts form the bedrock of Viksit Bharat — a vision of a developed and self-reliant India. “When people take ownership of a mission and participate with enthusiasm, no goal is beyond reach,” Modi declared.

Saturday’s event in Visakhapatnam saw thousands gather on the beachfront for a mass yoga session that blended tradition with a forward-looking vision of health and harmony. The occasion was marked by public enthusiasm, cultural performances, and a renewed national message of unity through wellness.

With this year’s theme aligning personal health with environmental consciousness, IDY 2025 continued to reflect yoga’s growing global appeal as a tool for physical well-being, mental peace, and collective purpose. Modi’s message — of moving from Me to We — set the tone for a future where individual practice meets societal transformation.
