A wave of change is prevailing across the country and the days of the Narendra Modi government are numbered, Congress leader Sachin Pilot claimed on Sunday.
Campaigning for his party’s Lok Sabha candidates in Haryana, he claimed after the first four phases of polling in the country, it has become clear that the INDIA bloc and the Congress are way ahead of the BJP.
The former deputy chief minister addressed public meetings in Karnal, Mahendragarh and Sirsa Lok Sabha constituencies which are being contested by Congress leaders Divyanshu Budhiraja, Rao Dan Singh and Kumari Selja, respectively.
“A wave of change is prevailing across the country and the days of the BJP are numbered,” Pilot said.
He claimed that the Modi government did not fulfil its promises in the past 10 years and failed to address unemployment, price rise, and the plight of farmers.
Pilot alleged that when various communities in Haryana, including farmers, raised their voices for their rights, they were beaten up. At the poll rallies, he also talked about the Congress’ Lok Sabha manifesto that focuses on five “pillars of justice” and 25 guarantees under them.

Reacting to the issue of ink being thrown on Congress candidate from North East Delhi Kanhaiya Kumar, Congress leader Sachin Pilot condemned the incident and said that there is no place for “violence” in a civilized society.
Earlier on May 17, Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar was allegedly assaulted and attacked with ink in Northeast Delhi.
“There is a buzz of change in the whole country…People are angry with the 10-year-old central government. People want to change…Especially the youth. In politics, in a civilized society, there is no place for violence. You may have opposition, you may have disagreements but violence is wrong. I strongly condemn it. Elections should be fought on issues,” Sachin Pilot told reporters on Sunday.
The Delhi Police has registered a complaint in connection with an alleged assault on Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police North-East, Joy Tirkey said that the complaint has been registered on the complaint of AAP councillor Chhaya Sharma.
Kanhaiya Kumar attended a meeting at the AAP office in New Usmanpur on Friday. The meeting was hosted by AAP councillor Chhaya Sharma. Kumar was interacting with some people after the meeting.
The purported video of the incident has gone viral. In the video, it can be seen that some people while interacting with Kanhaiya Kumar garlanded him.
While garlanding him, some people threw ink on the Congress leader and tried to assault him. When AAP leader Chhaya Sharma tried to intervene, those people also misbehaved with her and threatened her, the police said.
“Legal action is being taken on Smt. Chhaya Sharma’s complaint,” the police said.
Kanhaiya Kumar is the Congress candidate from the North-East Delhi constituency in the Lok Sabha elections. He is up against two-time Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari.
As part of the seat-sharing arrangement, the Congress is contesting three seats while AAP has fielded candidates from four constituencies in Delhi.
Voting in 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi will be held on May 25. The counting of the votes will be done on June 4.
Reacting to the viral video, Congress leader Abhishek Dutta has accused the BJP of assaulting Kanhaiya Kumar and said that this will cost them the seat.
“This one slap is going to make the Bharatiya Janata Party lose the elections in Delhi. @kanhaiyakumar will win the elections, now it remains to be seen how many more these cowardly BJP people beat an innocent Bihari,” he posted on X. (ANI)
Manish Tewari promises free water, electricity for Chandigarh
Free 20,000 litres of water to every household every month, 300 units of free power to those with monthly income less than Rs 20,000 and no new taxes are among the slew of promises made by the Congress in its manifesto released on Sunday.
Contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Chandigarh with the support of AAP and Samajwadi Party, its INDIA bloc partners, the Congress plans to take forward AAP’s plan to provide 20,000 litres of water free to every household, first proposed in the MC General House meeting in March this year.
While the House had approved the proposal, it remains pending with the UT administration amid administrator Banwarilal Purohit’s steadfast opposition.
While releasing the manifesto at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in Sector 35, Congress candidate Manish Tewari said growth, accountability and transparency were the manifesto’s key themes.
“Yes, the AAP brought the free water proposal in the MC House, but we are contesting the election together,” said Tewari, while responding to a query.
Further, the manifesto promises ownership rights to all rightful occupants of dwelling units in Rehabilitation Colonies, including tenement sites and GPA housing schemes.
It also states that “Lal Dora” in villages will be extended and construction beyond it will be regularised. “Need-based changes and alterations in CHB flats will be regularised on ‘the Delhi pattern’,” the manifesto reads, while also promising conversion of all categories of leasehold properties to freehold across the city. Proposal to withdraw property tax being charged on leasehold properties will be considered, it says.
The INDI alliance has also promised a legislation to allow share-wise/floor-wise transfer of properties in Chandigarh.
“Empowerment of women and youth shall always remain a priority, and the efforts to upgrade the educational resources and facilities in government schools and colleges will earnestly be made to help them match with the best in the field,” said Tewari.
He promised that a comprehensive developmental plan for next 25 years will be charted out to appropriately respond to the existing and potential challenges before the city residents.
Tewari said the alliance was committed to eliminating the scourge of garbage dumps in the city. “The whole approach towards solid waste management shall be transformed by implementing various modern bio-remediation techniques and other technologies. The garbage dump in Dadumajra will be made extinct at the earliest,” he assured.
The manifesto also guarantees to expedite work on shorter route from Chandigarh to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali. Also, efforts will be made to give Chandigarh’s farmers land compensation on par with Punjab.
Chandigarh will be made the fourth industrial revolution hub through creation of policies to spearhead expansion of employment opportunities, it adds.
