India and Moldova on Monday signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation and facilitating the exchange of information on training programmes for diplomats.
The MoU was signed by Raj Kumar Srivastava, Dean of the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), and Ana Taban, Ambassador of Moldova to India.
Sharing a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote, “The diplomatic academies of India @SSIFS_MEA & Moldova signed an MoU on cooperation & exchange of information on training programmes for diplomats.”
“The MoU was signed by Raj Kumar Srivastava, Dean, SSIFS & Ana Taban, Amb of Moldova to India,” the post added.
The signing of the MoU comes amid the visit of Moldovan Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Mihail Popsoi.
Popsoi’s visit marked a significant step in enhancing the bilateral ties between the two nations.
On December 15, India’s Jaishankar and Popsoi jointly inaugurated the newly opened Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in New Delhi, underscoring the growing diplomatic relations between the countries.
The visit included comprehensive discussions on the full range of India-Moldova relations, spanning political, trade, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges. The ministers also addressed various regional and international issues of mutual interest, stated the press release.
In a key development, the ministers signed a Declaration of Intent to establish a Migration and Mobility Partnership between the two countries. The partnership aims to facilitate cooperation in areas such as labor migration and mutual recognition of qualifications.
Additionally, Moldova committed to joining the International Solar Alliance (ISA) by signing the Framework Agreement during the visit. Another major achievement was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, Ministry of External Affairs of India, and the Diplomatic Institute of Moldova.
The MoU is aimed at fostering greater collaboration in diplomat training, enhancing the bilateral diplomatic ties.
India and Moldova share friendly and cordial relations, with ongoing cooperation in multilateral forums. The two countries regularly exchange views on issues of mutual importance, further strengthening their partnership.
The Indian community in Moldova, particularly the 850 medical students, plays a significant role in bolstering the people-to-people ties between the two nations. The Indo-Mold Business & Cultural Organisation (IMBCO), established in 2017, is also active in fostering social and commercial connections.
India recognised Moldova on December 28, 1991, and diplomatic relations were officially established on March 20, 1992. Moldova has supported India in various multilateral platforms and both countries continue to collaborate effectively. (ANI)
Popsoi pays tribute to Mahatma
Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mihail Popsoi, who is on his first official visit to India on Monday, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and laid a wreath at Rajghat.
He also signed the visitors book at Rajghat.
In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Remembering Gandhian values of truth, non-violence and peace. Deputy PM and FM @MihaiPopsoi of Moldova paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat today.”
Popsoi arrived in Delhi on Sunday. Welcoming Popsoi in India, Randhir Jaiswal on X wrote, “Warm welcome to Deputy PM & FM @MihaiPopsoi of Moldova on his first official visit to India.” “His visit will deepen India-Moldova bilateral ties and foster a stronger partnership,” the post added.
The Modlovian minister and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar jointly inaugurated the Embassy of Moldova in India yesterday. In his speech, the EAM thanked Moldova for providing crucial help during ‘Operation Ganga’ in evacuating Indian students and also expressed confidence in the growth of ties between the two countries.
In his speech, Jaishankar noted that the inauguration of the embassy serves as a significant milestone in the relationship between India and Moldova.
“Every time an embassy opens here, I know we’ve done something right in our foreign policy. Whether it’s a mission opening here or one of our embassies or consulates opening abroad, I see that as a reflection of India’s growing engagement with the world”, he said.
Jaishankar noted that the inauguration of the embassy is a statement of a deeper relationship with Moldova and reflects the shared commitment of the two nations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992. He noted that India and Moldova have supported each other on the global stage in multilateral institutions and international challenges like climate change and sustainable development.
