Hasina opens model mosques, urges citizens to avoid militancy

Notwithstanding Hasina’s efforts in eliminating radical elements from the society, threats from non state actors continue to plague…reports Asian Lite News

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who virtually inaugurated 50 model mosques across the country, has stressed the need to spread the true knowledge of Islamic values and culture and not get misled in the name of religion. Hasina urged citizens, especially children not to get involved in militancy.

Notwithstanding Hasina’s efforts in eliminating radical elements from the society, threats from non state actors continue to plague. The opening of the model mosques is to ensure the right message of Islam is spread and that no one is misled in the name of religion.

“We have taken the projects of constructing model mosques as none can mislead people in the name of Islam alongside creating awareness on the Islamic values,” Hasina said, adding that militancy is dishonouring Islam instead of dignifying it.

“We can develop our society in a beautiful manner by erasing miseducation, differences, conflicts, terrorism, and militancy through realising the true sense of Islam,” she added.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Hasina said that the government has undertaken the projects of constructing model mosques so that no one can mislead people in the name of Islam.

The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in a report published in June said that despite the decline in the number of terrorist incidents since 2016, Islamist groups continue to operate, recruit, and carry out small-scale attacks while aspiring to perpetrate greater violence.

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) department in Dhaka earlier warned that the US withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan could lead to a rise in militant activities in the country.

India and Bangladesh share the fifth longest land border in the world.

A peaceful Bangladesh therefore is critical for India and the region.
