UK Parliament Week organised at the House of Commons

The evening started with opening words by the parliamentary host Bob Blackman who has outlined the work of the Parliament Houses and Select Committees, reports Asian Lite News

The UK Parliament Week was marked at the Portcullis House of the House of Commons recently by Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence. Hosted by Bob Blackman MP, the event included speeches on issues that matter to the community, issues to take action on or could make an impact on, cultural representations, and a brief interaction with the MP.

The evening started with opening words by the parliamentary host Bob Blackman who has outlined the work of the Parliament Houses and Select Committees. This was followed by a brief introduction about UK Parliament Week by Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Founder of Sanskruti Centre.

Tributes were paid to Her Majesty Queen in different languages, by Siv Matchendran in Tamil, Acharya Durga Pokhrel in Nepalese, and Astha Deo in Hindi (written by Tejinder Sharma MBE). Dr Rohan Nagar spoke on how having a bridge between patients and hospitals can help NHS economically by citing several examples from his 18-year experience and observation.

Echoing on the same lines, Dr Raj Madula spoke on how retired medical professionals with a wealth of knowledge can help build community centres offering measures for improving well-being and fitness, which can help address minor ailments and problems not needing hospital appointments.

Booklet of Tributes to the Queen presented

Madhini Sivasubrahmanian from the University of Sunderland in London spoke on the issues in the nursing sector citing facts and figures. She reiterated their key role as frontline workers, especially during the two years of the pandemic.

Sushil Rapatwar, Vice-Chair (Political) from BNCA spoke on how one can take an active role in politics by contesting in elections and joining the councils. Pravina Vandra spoke on becoming self-sufficient in basic knowledge of common health challenges as these are the aspects that matter to the community and individuals. De-Hua Hyang spoke on migration aspects from an international student’s perspective.

Young speaker Kaavya Rapatwar outlined how she is inspired by the qualities and work of former Under-Secretary for Energy & Climate Change and life peer Baroness Verma. Young dancers and singers Dyuthi Balley, Ujjwala Sai Mangalagiri, Madhusri Prasanna, and Medha S Marar presented a refreshing cultural perspective, trained by Manju Sunil.

The meaningful program raised awareness about the UK Parliament Week among the attendees and the nationwide activities that could be undertaken under the purview of the same.
