Days after the skirmishes between border guards of Iran and Afghanistan, the main crossing point between the two countries has been opened, local media reported.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Sunday announced that the tensions with Iran have been resolved and that the border crossing is open now, TOLOnews.
On Saturday, a dispute occurred between Afghanistan and Iranian border forces in the Islam Qala district of Herat province after Islamic Emirate forces wanted to pave a road alongside the border.
Following the incident, Afghan border forces seized an Iranian military vehicle that had entered the Afghan territory, TOLOnews reported citing officials.
Sources have said that the construction of the road has been halted temporarily and envoys from both sides are expected to talk over the issue, according to TOLOnews.
It further reported that dozens of passengers and vehicles were stuck on both sides of the border after the Afghan and Iranian forces were reported to be on alert on Saturday.
“We went near the border and were told it is closed. Today, we decide to go again. We heard that it is still closed,” TOLOnews quoted Ghulam Mahboob Noorzai, a resident of Herat as saying.
This is the second time the Taliban and Iranian forces engaged in skirmishes on the border after the Taliban’s takeover last August, as per Khaama Press.
Earlier, Iran refused to accept the political representatives of the Taliban government until the Taliban get recognized by the world, said a media report.
“The new government and the new political system in Afghanistan must be recognized so that the Islamic Emirate will be able to send new representatives,” Tolonews quoted Saeed Khatibzadeh, a spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as saying.
Earlier, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi had condemned the bomb attacks in Afghanistan in which several people including children were killed in Kunduz city.
According to the Iranian presidency, Raisi told a religious ceremony that protecting Afghan people’s lives is a responsibility of the Taliban, Xinhua News Agency reported.
He also urged the group to fulfill their responsibility and take action against the perpetrators of such crimes against Afghan Muslims, who are fasting, in mosques.
A blast occurred in the mosque of Afghanistan’s Imam Sahib district of Kunduz, killing at least 33 people including children and 43 wounded, Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban said.
“At least 33 people including children were killed and 43 were wounded in the mosque attack in the Imam Sahib district of Kunduz, Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said on Twitter. Condemning the attack, he said efforts are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice,” TOLOnews reported.
The explosion took place on last Friday at the Mawlawi Sekandar Mosque in the Imam Sahib district of northern Kunduz province in Afghanistan. (ANI)
