A 250-strong contingent of the Indian Army has reached the Volgograd region of Russia to participate in the India-Russia tri-services military exercise Indra-2021.

The military drill will be held at the Prudboi practice range in the Volgograd Region in southern Russia from August 1-13.

The Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army), (ADGPI) in a Twitter post on Monday said that the Indian contingent that reached Volgograd region for participating in the exercise was given a warm welcome upon arrival by the Russian Military Band.

“#IndianArmy contingent participating in Exercise #INDRA2021 from 01 to 13 Aug 2021 arrived at #Volgograd, #Russia. The contingent was given a warm welcome by Russian Military Band. #Jointness #IndiaRussiaFriendship,” said the ADGPI post.

Announcing the exercises last month, India’s Ministry of Defence had said the Indra-2021 drills will involve about 250 servicemen of the armed forces of India and around 250 personnel of the Russian Army’s Southern Military District.

The exercises involving India and Russia are aimed at further strengthening mutual confidence, interoperability and enabling the sharing of best practices between the armed forces of both countries.

Simultaneously, it also looks to jointly evolve drills to defeat the scourge of terror under the United Nations mandate.

The Indra series of exercises began in 2003 and the First joint Tri-Services Exercise was conducted in 2017.

The last joint tri-services exercise between India and Russia was conducted in India from December 10-19, 2019. It was held simultaneously at Babina (near Jhansi), Pune, and Goa.

The exercise showcases the long-standing bond of India and Russia friendship and strengthens the relationship between the militaries of the two countries. (India News Network)
