Salman allowed to travel for Dubai show

salman khanThe Bombay High Court  permitted Bollywood superstar Salman Khan to travel to Dubai for a show scheduled for May 29.

The vacation judge, Justice Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi, allowed Salman, on an application filed last week, to go abroad as per the conditions laid down in his bail after a trial court convicted him in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

Salman’s lawyer pleaded that the actor had to comply with professional commitments and needed to be out of the country between May 27 and 30, when he is scheduled to attend the Indo-Arab Bollywood Awards in Dubai.

“Since the applicant is ready to abide by the conditions, his application deserves to be allowed,” Justice Phansalkar-Joshi said in the order.

She directed Salman to furnish his complete travel plans, his lodging arrangements in Dubai and his contact details to the police and also intimate his arrival and departure plans to the Indian embassy in Dubai.

This would be Salman’s first trip abroad after his conviction. Earlier, he spent around a fortnight in Kashmir on shooting assignments.

On May 6, the actor was sentenced to five years in jail by the Mumbai sessions court for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other charges.

However, two days later, the Bombay High Court suspended the sentence and granted him conditional bail pending final hearing and disposal of his appeal against the sentence.

One of the conditions was that Salman must seek the court’s permission every time he wants to travel abroad.

One pavement dweller was killed and four others were injured when Salman’s Toyota Land Cruiser ran over them and rammed into a bakery in suburban Bandra in the early hours of September 28, 2002.
