The “Rockstar” of Bollywood, who has also walked the runway in the past, says it has been a challenging experience for him.

“Walking the ramp is more challenging because you don’t have script or dialogue. You can’t hide behind a character. You have to be yourself, you have to be stylish, you have to wear your personality and if the person has no personality, then it gets more difficult,” the actor told reporters post the offsite show.

However, he credited designers like Malhotra for bringing out the best of one’s personality through clothes.

“When you have clothes of Manish Malhotra, then anyone can hide behind them. I wore Manish’s clothes in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. He is encouraging and always gives me correct critisism and praise so I will be there for him always,” he added.

Mehboob Studio turned out to be the perfect venue for Malhotra’s show with Bollywood coming out in full force to cheer for their favourite designer, who completed 25 years as a costume designer and 10 years of his label, Manish Malhotra.

The Bollywood faces spotted in the front row during his show were Karan Johar, Dino Morea, Vivek Oberoi, Mandira Bedi, Tamannah Bhatia, Urmila Matondkar, Ali Fazal, Manish Paul, Sooraj Pancholi with his mother Zarina Wahab, Shriya Saran, Tanishaa Mukerji, Ayushmann Khurrana, Arjun Kapoor, Kunal Khemmu, Ameesha Patel and Sanjay Kapoor.

The ramp witnessed chairs and tables hanging from the ceiling with female models first walking the runway to live jazz music performed by Gino Banks and Sheldon. That was one of the highlights of the show and set the mood for the debut of the menswear line.

Under the flash of UV lights, the fast pace show featured 78 garments with 40 male models who zipped around one of the biggest ramps at a fashion week.

The collection had lot of suits, jackets with whole lot of embroidery and intricate detailing. Practical blazers were worn with slim fitted trousers, waistcoats were smartly styled with jackets, bundhgalas and embroidered bundis had a regal look, while the elegant sherwanis were sophisticated.

There were an assortment of hoodies, printed shirts, double-breasted bundhgalas and long winter coats with or without belts.

In the words of designer, the collection “is an extension of my couture line.”

“In keeping with the season, The Gentlemen’s Club collection is a festive fusion of Indian and western couture, focusing on shades of emerald green and adorned with botanical motifs.

“There were lot of textures, velvet, tweak, silks in the collection with polka dots and Kashmiri embroidery. I have used lot of velvets because its winter festice,” said the designer.

So, why was Ranbir chosen as a showstopper?

“Ranbir has inherent taste and his parents has taste. Whenever I showed clothes to Ranbir , he always picks up the best. He knows what he wants,” said the designer, who will launch his menswear line in November this year at his exclusive store in New Delhi.
