Trump accepts invite to next QUAD meet

The upcoming Quad Summit in New Delhi is expected to further consolidate this alignment, with a focus on regional security, economic resilience, and joint efforts to maintain peace in the Indo-Pacific…reports Asian Lite News

In a development underscoring the deepening strategic partnership between India and the United States, President Donald Trump has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to attend the upcoming Quad Summit in New Delhi later this year. The announcement was made by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Wednesday, following a telephonic conversation between the two leaders held on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada.

“For the next meeting of the Quad, Prime Minister Modi invited President Trump to India. While accepting the invitation, President Trump said that he is excited to come to India,” Misri said in a video message shared with the press.

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, or Quad, is a strategic alliance comprising India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. Rooted in a shared commitment to ensuring an open, stable, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region, the partnership originated from humanitarian cooperation following the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. In recent years, the grouping has gained prominence amid growing geopolitical tensions in the region and beyond.

The upcoming Quad Summit in New Delhi is expected to further consolidate this alignment, with a focus on regional security, economic resilience, and joint efforts to maintain peace in the Indo-Pacific. President Trump’s acceptance of the invitation marks a reaffirmation of the United States’ commitment to the strategic framework and signals a continued interest in bolstering ties with India.

Beyond the Quad agenda, the leaders’ conversation reportedly covered a wide range of pressing global issues, including the escalating Israel-Iran conflict and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Misri confirmed that the situation in West Asia formed a key part of the exchange. Israel and Iran have been engaged in sustained military exchanges for the sixth consecutive day, raising international concerns about potential escalation and regional destabilisation.

“President Trump and Prime Minister Modi also discussed the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, both agreed that direct dialogue between the two sides is essential for an early peace, and efforts should continue,” Misri said. He added that the leaders reiterated the significance of the Quad as a platform for promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, a region increasingly shaped by the strategic contest between major powers.

In a crucial revelation, Misri also touched upon Operation Sindoor, India’s recent retaliatory military action against Pakistan. The Foreign Secretary disclosed that on the night of May 9, US Vice President Vance called Prime Minister Modi to convey intelligence inputs suggesting that Pakistan was preparing for a significant strike on Indian territory.

“In response, Prime Minister Modi told the Vice President in clear terms that if such an attack takes place, India will respond with even greater force,” Misri said. True to this assertion, India launched a powerful counter-attack following Pakistani aggression on the night of May 9–10. According to Misri, the Indian armed forces inflicted substantial damage on Pakistan’s military infrastructure, including rendering several of its airbases inoperable.

India’s decisive military action reportedly prompted Pakistan to seek a de-escalation through direct communication channels between the two armies. Misri was categorical in stating that the cessation of hostilities was not brokered by any third party.

“At no point during this episode was there any discussion on the India-US trade deal or any US mediation on India-Pakistan matters,” Misri emphasised. “The halt to military action was decided through direct engagement between India and Pakistan, based on requests from Islamabad itself.”

The Foreign Secretary concluded by stating that President Trump had a clear understanding of India’s position and expressed support for its firm stance against terrorism. This endorsement from the United States is likely to be viewed as a diplomatic win for New Delhi, especially amid tensions in South Asia and the broader global security climate.

With President Trump’s forthcoming visit to India for the Quad Summit, attention will now turn to the agenda and outcomes of the high-level gathering. As the world navigates multiple overlapping crises—from conflict zones in Europe and the Middle East to rising strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific—the meeting is expected to send a strong message of unity among the Quad countries in favour of a free, rules-based international order.
